Newspaper’s Executioner and Savior...

Just last week we explained how the recent AP-Google alliance was basically one more source of competition for newspapers, coming from a front they didn’t expect. Steve Boriss of The Future of News believes that traditional newspapers face a bleak future. Last week’s news might just be not the beginning but the first step beyond “the tipping point in the great fall of newspapers.” (more…)
TV and the Internet: Both Dead & Boring?...

Two ideas made the rounds in the blogosphere this week. The first one, a prediction from Vint Cerf, “founding father of the Internet” and Google’s Vice President: it’s the end of TV, as we know it. TV is dying. Upon further reading and beyond the sensationalist headers, what Cerf means is that the way we consume TV contents and how we get to them is changing. (more…)

News Corp. and NBC Universal presented Hulu, the name of their online video joint venture and billion dollar startup. Hulu will feature free premium, professional content such as Family Guy, My name is Earl or The Office among many others. (more…)

Is the Internet Ready for Mainstream IPTV?...

Several articles this week discuss the readiness of the Internet, in it’s current form, to adapt to a mainstream use of IPTV. Most ISP’s would probably say that the Internet is not ready for mainstream IPTV, or in other words, that they are not ready to provide the bandwidth this would require, under the current broadband payment plans. Google Video to Stop Offering Paid Video Downloads...

Google Video, a free video sharing and video search service from Google, stopped offering paid video downloads. Google let video content producers upload their own contents and sell them through Google Video. Such contents where protected by Google with DRM and thus had copy, share and play limitations. YouTube’s competition is coming from many fronts and in many ways, yet it still manages over 21% of all online video streams. Yahoo, while only having 4.6% of streams, recently stated that they are going to take on YouTube. (more…)
