Dominique Donois (Paper Sculpturing)
Posted in Visual, Art on June 21st, 2007. By Ona Vinyamata.

Dominique Donois lives in France, near a castle. She creates “wonderful dreams” unbelievably made out of paper (papier-mâché). Unbelievably because they seem alive cartoons.
Computer-generated visual effects are a wonderful resource that is no longer being used only in cinema. Prices have decreased and professionals in this field are increasing. Maybe that’s why directors are starting to play again with mise en scène and in-camera effects. Michel Gondry, for instance, can almost be considered the new Méliès.
Dominique Donois’ creatures would perfectly fit in an animated film. They are a great example of how tangible-images can give something else to 3D ones (although we know anything can be created using 3D). But imagine how playful these would be shooted in film, with all those edges and the beautiful real paper texture.
In any case, Dominique’s pieces can be imagined in many different scenarios, and inspiration starts to flow just looking at them.
