Happy Objects: the Japanese brand Decole started the trend selling smiling teapots, glasses and pencils… Now we’ve seen it several times mainly in TV spots and music videos where objects or food are not wholly humanized but wear a very simple Decole-Style smile.

Darkening the edges: we are used to visual borders, nature has limited us this way and so we find beauty in the framed and restrained. We’ve seen slick white frames, rounded edges, reflections, glows and even curled corners. Now is the time for black faded frames that resemble those that come out from antique camera lenses.

Surreal Hyperrealism: illustration is, for some, going hyperrealist (not photorealist) since the beginning of the 2000s. The debate on the sense of spending a bunch of time making a painting look real (in the middle of the digital photograph era) has been there all these years. But now hyperrealist artists are starting to use their captivating abilities to paint surreal scenes.
