New power of the mobile platform

What a cellphone can do for you, how it looks like, how it makes you look, all that seemed to change in a week’s time. Making the mobile platform fashionable; once again, Apple did what they do best.
This last month’s talking and writing about the iPhone was often attended by one word: Revolution. Not a new word in the history of mobile phones; a product that much connected to social behavior and cultural practice often marked revolutions regarding mobility, connectivity, communication technology. But the iPhone did not revolutionize phone technology (although it introduced a touch screen to it), instead, the revolution might come from its features as an internet enabled mobile media platform.
Ever since the idea of multimedia devices in pocket-size arose, industry and users were wondering about quality, comfort and possibilities of it. Now Apple did what they do best: entering an already crowded market offering a device based on simplicity, introducing a perfectly designed, very fashionable, very functional eye-catching must-have.
It is not only a perfect tool for the digital bohemia, but also for the entertainment and information industry. With its widescreen it offers a new platform for films and videos, and of course it features everything an iPod can already do for you. The usage of computer applications on the phone makes the connection between Internet and mobile easier.
And the industry follows: ABC-owned television-stations are offering a free mobile video service (Via Textually), first plans are made in Hollywood to produce short videos with big stars and big money. This would bring a little variation on the screen, as predictions are made that YouTube is soon going to dominate the cellphone video market.
